UNKNOWN FACTS 1
I felt the need of writing this blog since we are quarantined for approximately 86 days. Two things have definately felt by everyone. First, we have started introspecting ourselves and others and second, of having spiritual mindset. We have started believing in power not just to be safe from COVID-19 but to understand how spiritually our mind be in peace.
Have you ever wondered the stories of twelve Jyotirlings of Lord Shiva? So, I decided to spread positive thoughts and highlight, some goodreads on it. For 12 consecutive days I ll narrate one story based on jyotirling. Let us start with the 1st one. Any Guesses?
India is a land of Gods and Lord Shiva is the most revered Gods by
Hindus all across the world. Worshipped in the form of Shivlinga, Lord
Shiva is believed to bless all his true devotees with salvation. The
twelve Jyotirlingas also called the ‘Dwadash Jyotirlingas’ are
considered to be the holiest of all shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and
according to the beliefs of Hindu mythology, whosoever does the divine
darshans of these 12 holy Jyotirlingas, will be released from the cycle
of life and death. The Jyotirlinga is same in appearance as a Shivlinga
but is manifested with a divine light or ‘Jyoti’ that can only be seen
by a person when he reaches a higher level of spiritual attainment.
From all the Jyotirlingas, let us start with the Somnath Temple, Gujarat.
This Jyotirlinga is near Veraval town in Kathiawad District and is one
of the renowned in the country. It is believed according to Shiva
Purana, Daksha Prajapati married his 27 daughters to the moon. But Moon
loved Rohini the most. So, Daksha Prajapati saw ignorance of her other
26 daughters and he cursed Moon that he’ll lose all his glow. So after
being cursed Moon and Rohini came to Somnath and worshipped to Lord
Shiva and was blessed so he regains all his power and glows. So, the
Moon requested Lord Shiva to reside there and was thereafter known as
Somnath. But with growing time, Somnath temple was broken and
re-molded many times during different kingdoms.
We also have a history saying, mahmud of Ghazni who raided India 17 times and destroyed Somnath temple.
THAT'S ALL FOLKS!
